Williamson County Judge Steve Snell Champions Fiscally Conservative Budget, Delivering Property Tax Relief and Crucial Investments in Public Safety and Roads

GEORGETOWN, TX
– Williamson County Judge Steve Snell recently championed a $712.94 million fiscal year (FY) 2026-2027 budget that successfully adopts a no-new-revenue tax rate and prioritizes critical infrastructure and public safety while lowering the average taxpayer's burden.

At the September 1 meeting of the Commissioners Court, the Court approved a county tax rate of $0.421547 per $100 of valuation, ensuring that the average homestead residence will see an approximate 1.49% decrease in annual property taxes, saving homeowners an estimated $28 per year. In addition, Judge Snell also declined his own salary increase based on the county's recent salary study.

“This budget prioritizes public safety and roads, two top priorities for our residents as delineated through the communitywide survey. It also lowers taxes for the average homestead property through the no-new-revenue tax rate, which is one of my priorities,” said Judge Snell. “In a fast-growing county like ours, it’s a big win for our residents when we can continue to provide them with exceptional services while also decreasing their tax burden.”

Judge Snell worked with members of the Court to ensure that core functions of the county were directly addressed without passing the burden onto taxpayers.

Key highlights of the newly adopted FY 2026-2027 budget include:

  • Tax Relief & Debt Reduction: Adopting the no-new-revenue tax rate and allocating $10 million to paying down existing debt early, saving millions in future tax dollars on interest.

  • Prioritizing Public Safety: Adding 47.5 new full-time positions, with nearly half directly dedicated to public safety. To ensure first responders have the latest state-of-the-art resources, the budget includes $4.71 million for radio replacements, $1.5 million for body-worn and in-car cameras, and $385,000 for taser replacements.

  • Investing in Infrastructure: Allocating $75 million to the Road and Bridge Fund to improve mobility for a rapidly growing population, which includes $12.74 million for capital improvements and $10 million for the Long-Range Transportation Plan.

  • Supporting County Employees: Providing a 2% cost-of-living increase and a 3% merit increase for civilian employees, along with step increases for law enforcement personnel to attract and retain high-quality talent.

By adopting the no-new-revenue tax rate while also making record investments in road infrastructure, public safety, and early debt paydown, the adopted budget directly reduces the annual tax burden on local families, equips law enforcement to keep neighborhoods safe, and prepares the county’s transportation network for rapid population growth without compromising the county’s long-term financial health.
