Williamson County Judge Steve Snell Calls for Transparency and Citizen Input in Justice Center Planning Process
GEORGETOWN, TX – Williamson County Judge Steve Snell is prioritizing community voices by calling for residents to be formally included in the decision-making process for the proposed location of the new Justice Center. Before the county schedules any action to advance the project to Phase 3, Judge Snell emphasized the need to hear directly from citizens and called for facilitating open conversations with the public.
“The placement of our new Justice Center is a monumental decision that will impact Williamson County for decades, and the public must have a clear and formal voice in this process,” said Judge Snell. “Before we take any further steps towards advancing Phase 3, it’s our responsibility to pause and listen to our citizens, to ensure their voices are heard, and to take that feedback and integrate it into our planning.”
At the July 21 meeting of the Commissioners Court, Judge Snell stressed the need for a deliberative approach that ensures that community dialogue will take precedence over rushing the project’s next steps. The Court agreed that allowing adequate time for public feedback is essential before moving forward.

Existing aging downtown facilities, first opened in 1990, are expected to be at full capacity by 2032 based on current estimates tied to population growth. In addition, costs to renovate the existing facilities are projected to cost far more in the long run, with the jail remodel alone estimated at $115 million.
The new proposed Williamson County Justice Center would help handle rapid population growth, house a modern expanded county jail, as well as multiple new courtrooms and a significantly larger evidence storage. The new center would also improve safety, eliminate inefficient inmate transport, and provide a scalable hub for the county's law enforcement and judicial operations for decades to come.
